Supporting Siblings

We are here to support siblings

Children expecting a baby to arrive home and then not understanding why this hasn’t happened may struggle with their emotions, at home, in school and in their everyday life.

We want to help relieve the stresses of dealing with this alongside a loss and ensuring children are able to understand in a way that is appropriate for their age and therefore have developed a Play Therapy & Children’s Counselling Service for our siblings to access. Play Therapy is a therapeutic approach developed to help children between the ages of six to twelve years old. Our therapists work with a child to explore and resolve any issues around the loss of their sibling through the use of play. This involves using toys, drawings, story telling and other tools in order to help heal the child in a positive and creative way. The Children’s Counselling Service is for children of senior school age upwards, usually 11 or 12 depending on their level of maturity and will involve talking therapy age appropraite to them and their needs.

Just like adults, children also grieve in their own way so if Play Therapy is not the right support for them maybe try walking down a different path for them.

Supporting you

We understand helping children through their grief can be a very challenging and overwhelming time, as you are also trying to understand your own grief.

On our Podcast ‘Baby Loss, Grief & Love’ Ally, one of our experienced children’s counsellors, came on to talk all about children and grief and you might find this extremely helpful.

Ally has been counselling for Making Miracles for six years and been an integrative therapist for the past fourteen years. She has her own practice, as well as, works in schools with children going through the foster care system, who have suffered abuse or any form of loss.

On this episode Kelly and Ally discuss the importance of clear communication and choosing the right words when it comes to children and loss. They discuss what ‘Play Therapy’ is and  techniques used for children going through counselling.
