Precious memories of your baby
3D Hand & Feet Castings, Created With Love
We can cast babies from around 23/24 weeks up to 1 year (depending on weight and a few other factors) We can visit at hospitals, funeral homes or hospices and recommend that casts are taken as soon as possible.
The process involves pushing babies feet into a pot of alginate. Alginate is completely safe and non toxic, it is used by dentists for mouth moulds. We then wait a few minutes for the alginate to go hard. Once hard, we then gently wriggle babies hands/feet out of the mould. We will then fill the mould with plaster and then once this has set, we demould it. The plaster has to be left to dry fully before finishing and painting. The whole process can take up to 12 weeks before the casts are returned. The casts are provided in beautiful Memorial Boxes. Please note that the casts are collection only.
Parents can be present if they wish for the casting process, we just need a consent form completed. Please talk to us about any questions, concerns or worries. kelly@makingmiracles.org.uk

How does the Memorial Casting Service work?
- Contact with our team is made via yourselves, the hospital or the Funeral Director.
- If our criteria for casting your baby is met one of our casters will come out to meet your baby and you (if you’d like to attend, you don’t have to) If you are present you are welcome to hold baby as he/ she is cast and photos are permitted for extra memories. If you are not present the caster will look after your baby with love and respect and make sure the dignity of your baby is maintained throughout, keeping them wrapped up safe and only exposing what is needed for their casting. We leave baby as we found them with their teddies and belongings.
- We will leave a “Memory Making” and “Funeral List” for parents written by bereaved parents, that may be useful for the next steps as well as information about our support services that you can use as you need to.
- After casting it will take around 12 weeks to be fully finished. Please note that the casts are collection only. We do not post in any cases due to risk of any damages occurring in transit.
- You will be asked to choose the colour you would like the casts painted (silver, gold/ bronze, white, blue or pink)
- You will be contacted to arrange the collection a week in advance to the collection date.
- Castings are displayed in MM memory boxes, with white tissue paper.
- After collection the team will be in touch to make sure you are happy with everything and discuss the MM support services that are on offer to you.
