Meet the Team

The strength of our team is at the heart of everything. Supporting families through some of the most devastating moments of their lives requires compassion, understanding and emotional resilience and none of that is possible without a truly supportive team behind it.

TeamMM creates a safe space not only for the families we serve, but also for each other. The work is emotionally heavy, and having colleagues who understand the weight of every story, every tear, and every memory makes all the difference. Together, we share the responsibility of providing comfort, guidance and hope, ensuring no family feels alone in their grief.

Team members lift one another up on difficult days, celebrate small moments and offer kindness when words fall short. This sense of unity allows us to remain grounded, empathetic and strong for the families who need us most. It also helps prevent burnout, encourages open communication, and fosters an environment of trust and care.

Most importantly, a supportive team leads with heart. When we work together, sharing experiences, leaning on one another, and staying connected, we are better able to provide the gentle, sensitive support that families deserve. In a baby loss charity, the team isn’t just a workforce; it’s a compassionate network that holds each other up so we can, in turn, hold families through their darkest and most delicate moments.

Team MM

I started Making Miracles because I had been through a traumatic journey myself and with this personal experience I could see where the gaps in my emotional care were. I come from a solid background in Marketing, PR & Events Management so with these skills, alongside my own isolated journey I felt I could make a real difference.

Since 2014 (when I started the charity) I have worked with thousands of grieving families, I have received in-house training on the clinical side at Medway Hospital’s amazing Fetal Medicine Unit, I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor and Clinical Hypnotherapist, I have personally trained our amazing NHS staff around Baby Loss and how to deal with grieving parents and more recently launched the Podcast to help reach families all over the World. I am now approached and seen as a specialist in this field and I will continue to grow and learn new skills to ensure this reputation remains.

Making Miracles provides, in my opinion, the best baby trauma and bereavement care pathway to help the entire family through their individual journeys and we also, as team, are all experienced across trauma, high risk pregnancies, premature births and have suffered multiple losses first hand.
I am very passionate about making sure we bridge the gap I felt existed in 2013 and will always continue in my mission to make sure no parent ever feels as alone as I did. I have made it my aim in life to help make a positive difference to every parent’s journey throughout baby trauma and loss.

Hayley Spooner

Support Services Manager

After experiencing two premature births and the heartbreak of a miscarriage, I struggled to understand what happened.
Out of that trauma came a deep desire to make sure
no family ever felt alone in their grief.

Twelve years ago, I found my way to the charity that would eventually change my life. I first joined as a trustee, simply wanting to give back in any way I could. What I didn’t expect was how much the charity would give back to me. Over time, it became my therapy, where I could turn my pain into purpose.
Eventually, I was offered the opportunity to work for
the charity, a role I have always felt deeply privileged to hold.

Every day, I am inspired by the families we support. Their courage, their love and their resilience remind me why this work matters.

Being part of this charity for over a decade has shaped who I am. It has taught me empathy, strength and the power of connection. Most of all, it has shown me that even through loss, healing can happen and hope can be shared.

Becci Johnson

Support Services Manager

I first became involved with Making Miracles 12 years ago as a volunteer, raising both funds and awareness for a charity that is incredibly close to my heart.

Having experienced my own personal losses and fertility challenges, the mission of Making Miracles has always held deep meaning for me. I now feel incredibly fortunate to be a mum
to two gorgeous boys, and that journey has strengthened my passion for supporting others.

For the past 10 years, I’ve been proud and truly honoured to be part of the Making Miracles team. Being able to meet and support families during some of the most difficult and heartbreaking moments of their lives is a privilege I never take for granted. Every family’s story, strength, and love continually inspires me, and I’m committed to ensuring that no one faces these moments alone.

My work with Making Miracles is more than a role — it’s shaped by personal experience, compassion, and a deep belief in the power of support and community.

Tarah Chiverton

Admin & Events Team Co-ordinator

I’m married with three children and have over
10 years of experience in administration, education, and charity work, including time as a Teaching Assistant.

My background has given me strong organisational and people skills, and my personal experience has given me a deep appreciation of the vital work Making Miracles does.

Having experienced loss myself, I understand how important it is for families to feel supported, valued, and cared for. This insight drives my passion for helping others and shapes the empathy and professionalism I bring to my role every day.

As part of the admin and events team,
I love helping to bring people together, organising
meaningful events, and supporting the charity’s mission
to make a real difference for families.

Jody Deamer

Handmade with Love Co-ordinator

Over the last 25 years I have worked within Early years
and a Primary school but my work has mainly been around Safeguarding and supporting families.

Now that my children are adults, I no longer need to structure my work life around school holidays, and I had begun to feel ready for a new challenge. Over the last year, I've been keeping an eye out for something new that would spark my interest, well when I saw the advert for the Handmade with Love coordinator, I knew this was the "something new" I was looking for.

The more I read about the charity the more I wanted to be involved, as with most people myself and my family have faced some traumatic times, so to read about Kelly's journey and see what has come out of her experiences as well as the amazing work that the Making Miracles Team are doing I decided to apply for the poistion.

As part of the Handmade with Love team, I'm looking
forward to meeting new people, generating new ideas and support the growth of our charity shop, Handmade with Love
and support many bereaved families

Trustees

The board of trustees is the foundation of any impactful charity. Trustees bring guidance, stability and accountability, ensuring that every decision made truly serves the families and communities who rely on us.

Trustees contribute a wide range of skills, experiences and perspectives, helping the organisation grow in a thoughtful and sustainable way. They provide strategic leadership, oversee finances and support the team through both challenges and periods of growth.

A dedicated board of trustees not only strengthens trust within the community but also empowers staff and volunteers to deliver the highest standard of support. Their commitment ensures that the charity remains resilient, transparent and driven by purpose. Through their guidance, we are able to continue spreading hope, supporting families and making a meaningful difference.

Sally Howells

Chairman

Hi all, I am Sally. Having spent 35 years working in local authorities, I retired from my last post as Director of Ofsted’s Inspection and Regulation contract for the early years foundation stage. Since then I have been heavily involved is establishing and supporting Kelly to develop Making Miracles,
I have been Company Secretary
and I am now Chairman.

I focus my work to apply for various funding opportunities and give strategic direction to both the team and the Board of Trustees.

Pat Bax

Deputy Chairman

Hi I am Pat. I am a HR professional and spent all of my career in the public sector in several government departments. Since retiring I have undertaken a range of voluntary work. A few year ago my grandson was sadly stillborn at 34 weeks and the shock reverberated through the whole family.

I was pleased to volunteer with Making Miracles which is such a fantastic charity offering much needed support to families going through difficult pregnancies or loss. Following this I was privileged to be asked to become a Trustee to help support the amazing work that the team undertake especially as we move into wider areas within Kent. I have since become Deputy Chairman.

Linda Goss

Treasurer

Hi I am Linda. I contacted Making Miracles after the loss of my granddaughter Grace, who died shortly after birth. I had great support from Kelly and the team and decided to become a volunteer. I wanted to help with fundraising so that the charity could continue to help families going through high risk pregnancies and baby loss. When I retired from work as an administrator/book keeper I was able to give more time to the Making Miracles.

I realise, because of the loss of Grace, how important the support Making Miracles gives is and, was honoured when I was asked to become a Trustee. My role now in Making Miracles
is Finance Trustee and
I am pleased to be able to do
my part as we grow as a charity.

Julie Fentiman

Trustee

Hi, my name is Julie. I am a retired secondary school teacher specialising in teaching Food, Textiles and Child Development as well as being a
proud mum and nanny.

It was over three years ago that I was drawn into the Making Miracles shop in Maidstone by its colourful display of craft items and, whilst browsing, was asked if I was interested in volunteering. I now work in this lovely shop alongside an amazing team of volunteers and I am delighted to have been invited to join the Board of Trustees.

My role is to maintain contact with some of invaluable knit and natter groups and hopefully find more groups who can support us. In addition I will be making use of the back room at the shop as a meeting place where people can learn new craft skills as well as provide an opportunity for them to meet up with others, as we recognise the importance of social contact for our well being. All our volunteers, both the crafters and the shop staff are vital for this charity and I feel privileged to be a part of this team.

Matt Crockett

Trustee

I became aware of Making Miracles after the sad loss of our son. Both myself and my wife received amazing care, that was full of compassion and empathy from all the staff we met through the grieving process. And then again with the support we received through the scary times of facing a pregnancy after loss.

I wanted to become a trustee for Making Miracles as a way of giving something back to the amazing
charity that helped myself and my wife massively and we will
be forever grateful.

Making Miracles work and vision is
truly inspiring, helping families like myself through the most difficult, sad and daunting times I’ve ever
had to experience.

Become a Trustee

We are seeking compassionate, dedicated individuals to join our Board of Trustees and help guide the future of our charity. We are looking for new trustees who can help us strengthen and expand the important work and support we provide bereaved families.

We especially welcome applicants who can bring fresh ideas and new perspectives, as well as skills in finance, administration, or fundraising. Whether you have professional expertise or lived experience that motivates you to support our cause, your voice and insight could make a meaningful difference.

As a trustee, you will help shape our strategy, ensure good governance and champion our services within the community. Most importantly, you will be part of a caring team committed to ensuring no family faces baby loss alone.

If you’re passionate about making an impact and want to contribute your skills to a charity that changes lives, we would love to hear from you.
